Ofsted (October 2024) – A Strong Journey of Improvement
Yewlands Academy was inspected by Ofsted in October 2024. The inspection recognised the significant progress the Academy has made since the previous inspection in 2022, and the positive impact of strategic improvements across the school.
What the Inspection Highlighted:
Continual Improvement Since Last Inspection
Since the previous inspection, Yewlands Academy has made real and measurable progress. Inspectors recognised the school’s improvements in teaching, learning and outcomes over time.
Ambitious Curriculum Designed for Success
Working closely with the Brigantia Learning Trust, the school has developed an ambitious, coherent curriculum that clearly sets out what pupils should learn and the sequence in which they should learn it. This curriculum supports deeper understanding and prepares pupils well for future learning.
Strong Care and Support for Pupils
Pupils feel safe, cared for and listened to at Yewlands Academy. Strong relationships with staff are a consistent strength, ensuring pupils can share concerns and feel valued.
Personal Development and Enrichment
Pupils benefit from a rich array of personal development opportunities, including extra-curricular clubs, residential trips, enrichment activities like skiing and visits to Rother Valley, and a well-structured careers programme supporting progression beyond school.
Effective Support for Those Who Need It Most
The school identifies and supports pupils who are early in their reading development and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). This targeted support enables many pupils to catch up quickly and make good progress.
Leadership That Understands the School Well
Leaders and staff demonstrate a strong understanding of the school’s strengths and areas for development. The progress made reflects a committed leadership team that has driven change for the benefit of all pupils.
Looking Ahead:
Leaders acknowledged that there remains more to do- a testament to the school’s strong culture of continuous improvement and ongoing commitment to excellence. Leaders are focused on building on the progress made, especially in consistently embedding practice across all subjects.
